After an absolutely dreadful 45min, the nerves in Sydney were almost too much to take for the 80,000 count in an audience. It needed that first goal and the relief when Mile Jedinak's freekick took a wicked deflection and flew in the bottom corner as evident. It will be remembered as one of the great nights of Australian football.
Skipper Mile Jedinak hit a hat-trick as Australia preserve their position in the FIFA world cup 2018 Qualifying match with a 3-1 winning over Honduras in the under-Association play-off in Sydney.
It is the fourth time in a row that the Socceroos have qualified and they did it the hard way but sealed the deal in emphatic fashion at ANZ Stadium with a 3-1 win.
In the performance of his career Mile, Jedinak scored twice from the penalty spot and also took the free kick that led to a deflection off a Honduran defender to clinch a 3-0 victory.
Apart from that, he marshaled his troops with true captain’s authority for the full 90 minutes.
Having missed automatic qualification through the group stage Australia had to travel to Honduras where they managed to finish with a valuable 0-0 draw.
The charter flight home and perfect preparation with all of their players including Tim Cahill back from injury and suspension, Australia delivered on a nerve-racking night.
With the scores locked at 0-0 at half-time, the Socceroos took advantage of the Hondurans ill-discipline in the second half to convert all their chances. Honduras pegged one back in the final minute but Australia had already booked their place and are now on their way to Moscow on the back of their 3-1 win.

Looking forward for this match.
